As a Certified Play Therapist – Supervisor (CPT-S) with many years of supervisory experience, I believe clinicians seeking supervision are looking for a “goodness-of-fit” between themselves, their practice model/orientation, and the supervisor’s style and model/orientation. As an integrative play therapist, I have been trained in multiple approaches to child and play therapy and value all approaches and models. I use a developmental framework in supervision to support the clinician’s growth. The Play Therapy Dimensions Model is drawn upon for those individuals engaging in play therapy intervention who seek to expand their conceptualization skills and deepen their understanding of an integrative practice model.

As noted on my CV, I have authored, co-authored, and edited various books and chapters related to play therapy practice, including specific chapters on supervision (example below)

Gardner, K. & Yasenik, L (2008). When approaches collide: A decision-making model forPlay Therapists. In Drewes, A., & Mullen, J.A. (eds.) Supervision can be Playful: Techniques for Child & Play Therapy Supervisors (Lanham MD: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers).

As a former Co-Director of RMPTI, I have helped design and deliver a core-training program for Play Therapy Supervisors, and presented internationally on this topic (example below)

Creative Supervision Strategies and Techniques: A look at client world-view and impact on the play therapist. Workshop presentation for the International Play Therapy Study Group at Champneys Forest Mere; Liphook, UK. (June 18, 2017)

Supervision can be requested on a short-term or longer-term, continuous basis. For those seeking supervision for the purposes of Certification with CAPT, we begin with a planning meeting to clearly establish learning/development goals and processes.

If you would like to discuss your supervision needs and goals, please email me to arrange a time to discuss your needs.
